Dr. James Higgins BSc, MD, FRCSC
Dr. Higgins is a staff orthopaedic surgeon at Michael Garron Hospital and a Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. After completing his undergraduate and medical school training at Queen’s University, he completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Toronto, followed by two sub-specialty clinical fellowships: Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery at the University of Toronto and Trauma and Lower Extremity Reconstruction at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and St. Michael’s Hospital. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and he won awards for his work on using mobile patient engagement apps in post-operative follow-up.
His clinical scope of practice includes hip and knee arthroplasty, trauma, and related post-traumatic conditions, as well as management of upper and lower extremity sports injuries and degenerative conditions, including knee and shoulder arthroscopy. His goal has always been to restore quality of life to those affected by various musculoskeletal conditions.
